Last year, pop-star and renowned bon vivant Miley Cyrus surprised and/or delighted the world by performing Metallica’s “Nothing Else Matters” at the Glastonbury Festival. Many considered this a cool one-off — but now it looks like either Miley had a bigger vision at the time, or that performance gave her Metallica fever, because she’s now revealed that she’s got a Metallica covers album.
“We’ve been working on a Metallica cover album and I’m here working on that,” Miley told designer Rick Owens for Interview, explaining why she was currently in someone else’s bed. “We’re so lucky to be able to continue to work on our art during all of this. At first, it felt uninspiring and now I’ve been totally ignited.”
Many might call this choice into question, but according to the interview, Miley is enjoying a period of doing whatever she wants. “I have such a healthy and sexy relationship with recklessness right now. I can say yes to anything. It would take something really fucking crazy for me to say no. Wayne [Coyne] really opened that door for me, because I was on the Bangerz tour at that time, where I was traveling the world. Your levels of fulfillment and depression are so drastic, because you’ve got that two hours where you’re fully captivated and reaching your fullest potential, and then when you come down from it, it’s so hard. Having him and having that psychedelic music changed everything for me.”
Like so many metalheads, we have one thing on our minds after hearing this news: the tracklist. Will Miley err on the side of Metallica’s more dulcet tunes, a la “Nothing Else Matters?” Or will she surprise us all by performing bitching covers of “Blackened” or “Motorbreath?”
More on Miley’s Metallica covers record as we know about it. In the meantime, listen to her covering the Four Horsemen at the Glastonbury fest below:
