One thing that set Texas thrashers Power Trip apart from so many other bands like them was their live show. The quintet’s records were killer, to be sure, but it was watching them crush those catchy, sternum-splitting tracks in the live arena that was most compelling. So much of that was late frontman Riley Gale, whose boundless energy and throaty war cries felt like a private communication with everyone who’d made it out that night. And while the world lost Riley last month, we can relive at least some of that feeling by watching his set for 2019’s Sound and Fury in full.

The set is all shot from a bird’s eye view, so the viewer doesn’t exactly get the intimate, sweaty experience that was seeing Power Trip live. At the same time, this vantage point allows us to observe just how apeshit the crowd is going. From the countless dudes leaping up onto the stage to the vast, roiling pit that takes up the center of the floor, every single person in this space wants to show Power Trip how much power they can summon, to prove that they are just as involved in this night as the band is.

Check out the footage below:

Gale’s passing was announced by the band on Tuesday, August 25th, via the following letter on social media:

“Dear Power Trip fans worldwide,

It is with the greatest of sadness we must announce that our lead singer and brother Riley Gale passed away last night.

Riley was a friend, a brother, a son. Riley was both a larger than life rock star and a humble and giving friend. He touched so many lives through his lyrics and through his huge heart. He treated everyone he met as a friend and he always took care of his friends. We will celebrate Riley’s life and never forget the great works of music, charity, and love that he left behind. You, the fans, meant so much to him, please know how special you are. If you have a memory of Riley please share it, no matter how small, as we remember him.

Please respect our wishes for privacy during this time. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Dallas Hope Charities, the link to donate directly is here.

Signed,
– Riley’s Loving Family

P.S. Funeral and visitation arrangements are pending.”
