Flea Hearts Cannibal Corpse, Two Emo Batmans, and More on This Week’s Episode of Our Metal Talk Show, Last Words

“There’s two emo Batmans — WHAT’S GOING ON?!”

This week was rife with absurd stories, and on today’s episode of our heavy-metal talk show Last Words, hosts Jordan Olds (Two Minutes To Late Night), Katy Irizarry (Season Of Mist), and Doc Coyle (Bad Wolves/Ex Man Podcast) got into them. First and foremost: Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea discovering Cannibal Corpse.

“Listen, I always say, better late than never,” says Doc. “Actually, I think it’s kind of cool, especially in this era when you can find anything, you can find a record from 20 years ago and think, what the hell is this? — I think it’s kind of badass.”

“It’s hard to believe that Flea has never heard of Cannibal Corpse,” adds Katy, “because I just feel, as a touring band, a band who’s been on the festival circuit, you’re going to hear the name. They’re definitely, as far as death metal goes, among the top tier, more better-known bands. But for him to hear it for the first time, that’s awesome! I love when people get into music at any stage, whether it’s when they’re little kids or when they’re grown [PEACH] adults who’ve been around forever.”

The conversation then turned towards DC Comics’ new Dark Knights: Death Metal animated comic, featuring Black Veil Brides’ Andy Biersack voicing none other than Batman. Of course, this could not go untouched.

“Metal and comics have always gone together,” noted Jordan. “Claudio Sanchez of Coheed and Cambria — writes and publishes comics. Anthrax, you go all the way back to Among the Living, there’s a Judge Dredd theme song in the middle of the album! No one in America was reading Judge Dredd at the time — it was nuts!”
