With the coronavirus canceling most live gigs around the glove, bands have started getting creative with how they perform for their fans. While most musicians are going the traditional livestream route, some have taken a hard left turn. Such is the case with Canadian extreme metallers Vile Creature who tonight will try something completely different — an ‘interactive, immersive’ show.
What does this mean, exactly? Well, according to the band’s press release, fans will be able to access the show, named ‘Glory, Glory! Live! — a reference to the band’s new album Glory, Glory! Apathy Took Helm! — via a dedicated website at 7pm EST, with the show starting promptly at 8pm. After that, “the choice really is yours. How will you experience Glory, Glory! Live!? Will you be hanging out at the merch table all night, or will you be hanging off a monitor down at the front? This interactive experience will allow you to be in complete control of your virtual concert experience. We don’t want to give away all the details in advance, so we’ll probably just meet you there – where all will be revealed.”
On the one hand, this sounds so absolutely bananas that we’re not sure how the band will pull it off. On the other, this sounds so absolutely bananas that it just might work! This is like King’s Quest but with a metal show! Could choose-your-own-adventure digital shows become the wave of the future? Will Lamb of God eventually do one? Will there be an option where you can ill-advisedly make out with your best friend in a urine-spattered bathroom? We want to know!
Not only that, but while there is a suggested $7 donation for Vile Creature’s show — and if you have seven bucks, don’t be a dick, pay these guys, that’s cheap for any show — it’s free if you’re hurting financially. It should be noted, though, that it’s BYOB.
