On Monday, the Internet was in a tizzy about a cryptic short video shared on Gojira’s Twitter, captioned with just the hashtag ‘#anotherplacetobe.’ Given that the same phrase was included on shirts sold at a recent concert at Red Rocks in Colorado, many wondered if this suggested that the band would be releasing a Live at Red Rocks album. Now, Gojira has revealed what both the hashtag and the video were referencing: a new standalone single, accompanied by a gorgeous animated music video.
The track–the first new music Gojira has released since 2016’s’s Magma–is titled “Another World”, and is everything fans want from Gojira. You’ve got waterfall guitar riffs, a bounding rhythm, and lyrics concerning a far-reaching view of how the environment is being destroyed by the greed and corruption of mankind (specifically, the dream of leaving this ruined world and its terrible citizens behind in order to start anew somewhere else). The video features some truly inspired animation, and features both stunning, colorful artwork and a kind of adorable depiction of the band.
“It is with great excitement that we’re presenting our new track ‘Another World’,” says frontman Joe Duplantier in a statement. “Ferdinand Magellan once said: ‘It is with an iron will that we’ll embark on the most daring of all endeavors, to meet the shadowy future without fear and conquer the unknown.’ Is humanity doomed, or will we survive nature’s wrath? Take a glimpse into our shadowy future by watching our take on 1968’s Planet Of The Apes… Another World!”
