In May, Steve Von Till announced his forthcoming new solo album, No Wilderness Deep Enough, and unveiled its opening cut and lead single, the ethereal “Dreams of Trees.” Best known as one of the two frontmen of Neurosis, Von Till has also been making solo music for the last 20 years, sometimes released under the stage name Harvestman. As heard on “Dreams of Trees,” as well as No Wilderness Deep Enough’s second single, June’s “Shadows on the Run,” his solo output is much quieter, if still heavy, delving into folk, ambient, neoclassical and other divergent genres.
Today (July 8th) Von Till premiered another cut off the LP, the pensive and ambient “Indifferent Eyes,” which arrives accompanied by a haunting music video — watch and listen below. “It’s about personal longings and loss, and the loves and insecurities we all feel combined with meditations on humanity as a whole,” Von Till commented of No Wilderness Deep Enough. “I’m exploring the great disconnect: from the natural world, from each other, and ultimately from ourselves — trying to find meaning and depth in re-establishing those connections, to find a resonance in purpose and acknowledging the past while looking towards the future and still being in the moment.”
In addition to the new solo album, the Neurosis singer will also be issuing his first-ever book, titled Harvestman: 23 Untitled Poems and Collected Lyrics. The collection assembles writing from across his two-decade-long solo career, and will be published in a limited hardcover first edition by Astrophil Press at the University of South Dakota and illustrated with linocuts by Mazatl. See the table of contents — as well as the track listing for No Wilderness Deep Enough — below. Both the book and the album are available for pre-order now via Neurosis’ own label, Neurot Recordings.
