Turnstile/Trapped Under Ice Supergroup Angel Du$t Surprise-Release New EP ‘LIL HOUSE’

Published on:

Baltimore, Maryland, heavy hitters Trapped Under Ice and Turnstile are known for their high-energy, mosh-driving hardcore punk and some of the most insane live shows on the underground circuit — at least, back when live shows were a thing. But the guys have decidedly mellow sides, too, and those come in their supergroup side project Angel Du$t, whose 2019 album, Pretty Buff, was packed with breezy, light-hearted soft-rock jams perfect for a sunny day chilling on the beach. Today (July 15th), the group — Justice Tripp (vocals), Daniel Fang (drums), Pat McCrory (guitars, vocals), Brendan Yates (guitars, vocals) and Jeff Caffey (bass) — returned with their first music since that album, the surprise EP LIL HOUSE. Featuring three all-new songs — “Turn Off the Guitar,” the titled track, and laid-back acoustic lead single “Never Ending Game” — the release continues the decidedly not-heavy approach of Pretty Buff, providing a soothing respite from the seemingly ceaseless sturm und drang of this most apocalyptic year.

Produced by Rob Schnapf (Kurt Vile, Elliott Smith), LIL HOUSE is available now on all streaming platforms while the Mason Mercer–directed music video for the single “Never Ending Game” is currently up on YouTube.

“The video was entirely Mason Mercer’s idea,” Tripp told Flood of the clip. “I sent him the track to think about it, and although the lyrics are pretty vague, I think he understood it right away. When he mentioned the football stuff I was confused, but thought it sounded fun. I never really understood his vision entirely, but he’s one of a few people we have total faith in creatively, and the product is a video that makes the song make more sense.”
