See Metallica’s Entire May 1999 Show in Bogotá, Colombia, Part of Concert Series

Metallica unleashed the latest installment in their “Metallica Mondays” concert series last night (June 29th), and this week, the biggest heavy-metal band in the world threw back to a 1999 show in Bogotá, Colombia. The series — which has been a great way to pass two-and-a-half hours or so while stuck at home during the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting shutdown of the live music circuit — has seen the group digging up standout footage of shows from across their career and broadcasting it online. Yesterday’s concert was a special one, as the group — James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo — explained in a joint statement. “We dug through the dusty, old VHS tapes in Lars’ vault to uncover this show, which was not only the first time we played in Bogotá, but anywhere in Colombia,” they reported. Watch the full performance and check out the 19-song setlist below.

Last night’s broadcast marked the 13th entry in the “Metallica Mondays” series. Standout gigs from the previous 12 broadcasts include the band’s Hardwired… To Self-Destruct release show at the House of Vans in London in 2016, their full performance of the “Black Album” at Pannonia Fields II in Nickelsdorf, Austria, in 1991, a throwback show at The Metro in Chicago, Illinois, all the way back in 1983, and a rain-drenched set at Etihad Stadium in Manchester, England, in 2019.

In addition to the concert series, Metallica have also responded to the coronavirus crisis via All Within My Hands, their nonprofit organization. The band donated “four grants totaling $350,000 to organizations dedicated to assisting those hit hard by the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic.”
