Chances are you know Misha Mansoor as the virtuosic guitarist and founder of Periphery, the leading band in the polarizing djent movement that has followed in the footsteps of prog-metal masters Meshuggah. But Mansoor has been making music long before the group for which he is famous: Pre-Periphery, he earned a devoted following in guitar circles under the online moniker Bulb as he would share demos and playthroughs via fan forums. Bulb as since become a catch-all nickname for Mansoor’s solo work, output that is slated to be released across a 10-album collection over the next four months.

“Diving back into the Bulb archives is something that I’ve wanted to do for years” Mansoor said of releasing his pre-Periphery recordings. “As I began working on what will be a new Bulb album, I was reminded of this vast library of unreleased music, music that has only been previously available by seeking out bits and pieces on various forums and media channels. Presenting it in a context that both echoes my original intent with the songs grouped from the time period they were recorded in as well as making it easier for fans to find and enjoy was the driving motivation behind completing this massive undertaking.”

The kickoff album in the 110-song digital collection is Archives: Volume 8, which is due out on June 12th via Periphery’s own label, 3DOT Recordings. The LPs will then be released bi-weekly in reverse-chronological order with the most recent of the Bulb archival material dropping first, leading back to the final album, a set of the project’s earliest music, Archives: Volume 1.
