Metallica‘s “Metallica Mondays” concert series continues, and this week, the thrash pioneers threw back to 2014. The series — which has been a great way to pass two-and-a-half hours or so while stuck at home during the COVID-19 pandemic’s social-distancing restrictions — has seen the band digging up standout footage of shows from across their career and broadcasting it on the group’s YouTube channel and Facebook page. Yesterday (May 25th), James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo revisited their 18-song set from March 20th, 2014, at Estadio Nacional in Lima, Peru. The concert footage was directed by Marcia Kaspustin and features the metal icons tearing through a finely curated array of classic cuts and more modern offerings. Watch the full performance and check out the setlist below.
Prior to last night’s broadcast, the series has included nine concerts: at Slane Castle in Ireland in 2019; Paris’ AccorHotels Arena in 2017; Forum København in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 2009; San Francisco’s Outside Lands Festival in the summer of 2017; Munich, Germany, in 2015; L.C. Walker Arena in Muskegon, Michigan, in 1991; House of Vans in London, in 2016; Pannonia Fields II in Nickelsdorf, Austria, in 1991; and The Metro in Chicago, Illinois, all the way back in 1983.
In addition to Metallica Mondays, the band have also responded to the coronavirus crisis via their nonprofit organization, All Within My Hands. The group donated “four grants totaling $350,000 to organizations dedicated to assisting those hit hard by the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic.”
