As a member of Tony Hawk’s Birdhouse skate team, Elliot Sloan is the one of the most insane skateboarders in the world, known for flying through the sky on the mega ramp and taking gold at the 2019 X Games in the Big Air event. He’s also a diehard metalhead who shreds on guitar and writes and records his own headbanging tunes. While music has mostly been a hobby to this point for the fearless rider, Sloan now has a new band to his name: the duo Night Fiends in which he’s joined by his roommate and In Flames drummer Tanner Wayne. The project’s debut single is aptly titled “Death Lead the Way.” An anthemic melodic death-metal scorcher packed with guitar heroics, the song boasts guest turns by Lost Society singer-guitarist Samy Elbanna, the Black Dahlia Murder guitarist Brandon Ellis, and Nihilist and RattBlack drummer Sean Elg.

“We’ve been jammin’ and writing together for a while and thought it would be sick to have a big collab project with a bunch of guest artists and friends who are amazing musicians,” Sloan commented of Night Fiends. “This first song is called ‘Death Lead the Way.’ It features the singer from Lost Society, he did the vocals and the solo in the beginning, Brandon Ellis — my favorite guitar player — from the Black Dahlia Murder did the solo at the end, and my longtime friend Sean Elg. It’s one of my favorite songs I’ve written. We’ve got a ton of music we’ve been workin’ on and I can’t wait for people to hear it!” Check out “Death Lead the Way” via Spotify and see Sloan tearing it up on the mega ramp below.
