Masked metal powerhouse Slipknot are riding high on the success of last year’s critically acclaimed We Are Not Your Kind LP and playing some of the biggest shows of the group’s career all around the world. The latest accolade to come their way is the title of “Best Band in the World,” which was bestowed upon the Nine last night (February 12th) at the 2020 NME Awards. They beat out fellow nominees Bring Me the Horizon, Tame Impala, the 1975 and Brockhampton, among others. Slipknot were also up for “Best Album in the World” for We Are Not Your Kind, but lost in that category to Lana Del Rey’s Norman Fucking Rockwell.

The NME Awards ceremony was held at the O2 Academy Brixton in London, England, and while Slipknot were unable to attend in person, frontman Corey Taylor did send in an acceptance speech, which read as follows:

“We appreciate it, Best Band in the World. Way to catch up, we knew that 20 years ago! Thank you for finally recognizing it: this is everything that you ever wanted. So really this is more for you than anything else. Thanks to our fans for always sticking by us.”
