Moon Destroys are a cool new psychedelic stoner-rock band spearheaded by Juan Montoya (MonstrO/Killer Be Killed, ex-Torche) and Evan Diprima (Brother Hawk, ex-Royal Thunder). The duo have their debut EP, Maiden Voyage, lined up for a March 27th release via Brutal Panda Records, and ahead of that big date, they’ve unleashed the record’s lead single, “Blue Giant,” which features hypnotic guest vocals by Mastodon singer-bassist Troy Sanders, Montoya’s bandmate in the metal supergroup Killer Be Killed alongside Brazilian metal icon Max Cavalera and former Dillinger Escape Plan frontman Greg Puciato. Sanders isn’t the only outside contributor to appear on the five-track EP: Cynic vocalist and guitarist Paul Masvidal also guests, making an appearance on the standout cut “Stormbringer.”

“Troy’s brother Kyle used to be in [Monstro] with me,” Montoya explained to Kerrang! of Sanders’ involvement. “We worked in the same music store, so they would always invite me to family parties and Thanksgiving because I couldn’t go all the way back home to Miami. We’re family.

“So with Troy, I felt comfortable to ask him. We did Killer Be Killed together. So I hit him up one day and asked him to do this song. I gave him the title, and gave him the idea of giants in space, some kind of sci-fi thing. He gave it a twist of giant whales, returning home, swimming through the galaxy.”
