Victorius may be that rare band that can rightfully claim to be the leaders of a genre of one. That genre? German ninja power metal. The stealth-fighting, fast-shredding quintet recently dropped their latest album, Space Ninjas From Hell, via Napalm Records (you can pick up a copy here), and considering its totally unhinged and improbable mix of influences and themes, we reached out to guitarist Dirk Scharsich to find out about some of the songs that he loves that might shock his band’s fans. He offered up some great and truly surprising picks.

Cannibal Corpse – Kill

No one would likely expect that I like an album by an old-school death-metal band, but I really like Cannibal Corpse.

Scorpions – Sting in the Tail

This was supposed to be their farewell album 10 years ago. I even visited the tour for that album because everyone thought it would be their last — haha! But nevertheless, I like this album even though classic hard rock isn’t my thing at all.

Modern Talking – Win the Race

I’m a huge Formula 1 fan, and for one season, Modern Talking made the “official F1 song.” Don’t know which year it was exactly, but I have to admit that this is a great song.

Scooter – Nessaia

All of us in the band are fans of Scooter — no joke! We even visited a concert of theirs a few years ago — also no joke! We always listen to Scooter when we’re on the road to a show. No joke, too.

Modern Talking – Atlantis Is Calling (S.O.S for Love)

Again, Dieter Bohlen! I simply love the voice of Thomas Anders. I always try to sing along the high-pitched parts, but it’s better that no one ever hears that, hopefully.
