See Nergal Become Blasphemous Vigilante in Me And That Man’s New “Burning Churches” Animated Video

Fresh off the release of the fun, Tarantino-esque video for “Run With the Devil,” Adam Nergal Darski’s side project Me and That Man is back with yet another dark, blues-leaning jam, this one titled “Burning Churches.” Along with the song comes a goofy caper video that sees the Behemoth ringleader’s masked cartoon self act as a pyromaniacal vigilante whose duty in life is to set fire to the oppressive religious structures that tormented his youth.

The song’s lyrics — sung in a raspy, mournful tone by Grave Pleasures frontman Matt McNerney — and the seemingly silly visual go deeper and darker than they both appear at first, telling the story of a young boy who was sexually abused by a priest. Swearing vengeance on the church, he grows up into Nergal’s animated likeness —complete with chaps and an exposed “Jesus” ass tattoo — whipping out Molotov cocktails to incinerate houses of the lord.

“If someone would have told me one day, I’d release a Xmas song, I would have burst into laughter,” Nergal commented in a statement. “Hell freezes over and I present to you, ‘Burning Churches.’ This time I team up with Mat McNerney from the legendary Beastmilk, Grave Pleasures, DHG and Hexvessel. Make yourself comfortable around the Christmas tree, stoke the fire and grab yourself a drink! Hallelujah.”

Me And That Man will hit the road to perform songs, old and new, in spring 2020. See below for the band’s confirmed dates, which will see Frank the Baptist and Mulk playing in support. More shows are to be announced.
