Marilyn Manson is well on his way to going full-on southern gothic. In October, he released a grim, snarling rendition of the traditional American folk song “God’s Gonna Cut You Down,” previously covered by Johnny Cash. Today, November 22nd, he dropped a cover of the Door’s apocalyptic classic-rock nightmare “The End,” produced by outlaw country royalty Shooter Jenning and featuring unusual instrumentation, for Manson at least, including fiddle and piano. The single comes paired with a stark, morphing visualizer created by director Zev Deans (Ghost, Behemoth, Chelsea Wolfe) using Manson’s own watercolor self-portraits. It’s available now for streaming and download, as well as on limited edition 12-inch picture disc. This spring, the shock rocker is set to join none other than Ozzy Osbourne, when the Prince of Fucking Darkness relaunches his long-delayed “No More Tours 2” farewell world tour.
