This year’s Megacruise recently returned to dock after five days of headbanging and hard partying, from California to Mexico. The cruise, put together by thrash-metal pioneers Megadeth, departed from Los Angeles on October 13th on a round-trip voyage to San Diego and Ensenada, Mexico, that wrapped on October 18th. The at-sea heavy-metal extravaganza featured high-octane performances by Lamb of God, Anthrax, Suicidal Tendencies, Testament, Death Angel, Testament, DragonForce, Overkill, Corrosion of Conformity, Metal Church, Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons and others. Official cruise hosts Eddie Trunk (VH1, SiriusXM, AXS), Jose Mangin (SiriusXM) and Lüc Carl (SiriusXM, Ozzy’s Boneyard) moderated Q&A sessions and activities specially crafted for this voyage. Those events and activities included fan and artist photo experiences, intimate morning coffee jams, music clinics, fan and artist sporting competitions, and more. Notably absent was Megadeth bandleader Dave Mustaine, who was diagnosed with throat cancer earlier in the year and unable to attend as he undergoes treatment.
Other Megadeth members were on hand, however, and founding bass player David Ellefson was among the musicians who participated in the Megacruise all-star KISS jam alongside members of Anthrax, Queensrÿche, Death Angel, Testament, Doro, Hellyeah and Butcher Babies. The venerable collective ripped through “Detroit Rock City,” “She,” “C’Mon and Love Me,” “Cold Gin” and more. See fan-filmed video footage of the performance below.
