Killswitch Engage have unleashed the emotionally charged music video for their latest single “I Am Broken Too.” The song appears on the metalcore stalwarts’ hotly anticipated eighth album, Atonement, which is due August 16th via Metal Blade. The soaring cut follows up the LP’s lead single “Unleashed,” released in June, and aims to raise awareness of mental health issues, a cause near and dear to singer Jesse Leach‘s heart. The video — which was directed by Kyle Cogan and Zack Stauffer of SIMIAN.LA (A Perfect Circle, Breaking Benjamin) — tackles those issues, too.

“The video is a reflection of real-life events that loved ones have gone through,” Leach said of the clip. “Kyle Cogan and Zack Stauffer did an amazing job of bringing it all to life. The result is a powerful video that captures the essence and desperation of the song.” Watch it below.

Killswitch Engage are donating a portion of the proceeds from the single to Hope for the Day, a Chicago-based non-profit organization that focuses on suicide prevention by providing outreach and mental health education through the use of music and art.

“I wanted the listener to feel the urgency, the heaviness of the topic as well as a possible connection,” Leach said of the song around the time of its release. “Many people suffer from mental illness in one form or another. I want nothing more than for people to feel like they are not alone in this struggle. There is always someone there to help, to listen, and to be there for you. Don’t lose hope and don’t let your brokenness consume you. Broken can be fixed, or at the very least, maintained. No one is alone in this fight.”

Atonement, which is available for pre-order here, features epic cover artwork by Richey Beckett (Metallica, Mastodon) with art direction and design by Killswitch bass player Mike D’Antonio. Killswitch has a packed schedule of live shows ahead of them, including European tour this fall — see dates below.
