It’s a story that made headlines in April of 2018 — that while Killswitch Engage were recording for their new album, the band’s former frontman Howard Jones joined them in the studio for a track.
Upon the release of their eighth album Atonement today (August 16th) via Metal Blade Records, you can now hear the resulting cut, a duet between current vocalist Jesse Leach and Jones. “The Signal Fire” — its title is a nod to the name of Jones’ current metal group, Light the Torch — is as classic Killswitch as it gets, uniting two eras of the pioneering metalcore group, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.
In February of 2018 Leach and Jones met up and really got to know each other for the first time, at a show in Canada. On Instagram, Leach wrote: “I honestly didn’t really know Howard as a person until last night,” he said. “We’ve seriously just never hung out. A lot of really crucial stuff was said and I made a new friend. We have a lot in common, it’s crazy! It was also nice to see all of the guys hanging out in the same room sharing stories and tons of laughs.”
