Ukrainian rising stars Jinjer have been teasing a new full-length for quite some time since the release of their EP Micro earlier this year. Now with the lead single “Judgement (& Punishment)” from its appropriately titled follow-up Macro, the metalcore masters show they aren’t afraid to cross musical boundaries to infuse their sound with an eclectic set of influences.
Staring off with a distinct reggae flavor, the track builds quickly into an all-out decimator to match the mood of the witchy video. Singer Tatiana Shmaylyuk stars as the vengeful priestess, a role she energetically occupies on the screen and the stage with equal measure. Her command of the crowd in a live setting translates well into this cinematic foray and expertly matches the tone and movement of the explosive track.
“Going from small things to bigger ones is the natural order of things,” the band explains in a joint statement, “and we’ve paved a path from Micro to Macro, carrying the weight of feelings, emotions and experience.” Calling this a “monumental point” in their history as a band, they also exclaim they are “proud of every single note sung and played” on this new album.
Macro is out October 25 via Napalm Records. Pre-order a copy here. And catch the group on their upcoming North American tour (see dates below).
