Hear Alter Bridge’s Hard-Hitting, Soaring New Song “Take the Crown”

Published on:

Alter Bridge guitarist Mark Tremonti may have said to expect the band’s new album Walk the Sky to be “kinda like a John Carpenter movie – this old school synth-wave kind of vibe” in an interview with Kerrang earlier this year. But with their latest single, “Take the Crown,” the hard rockers prove they’ve still got riffs for days and the kind of songs to get a whole stadium on its feet.

Featuring Tremonti’s soaring guitar licks holding up Myles Kennedy’s powerful vocal performance, the track is primed to join the band’s other singles from this record cycle on a climb to the top of the charts. Radio-ready but still chock full of meaty, staccato riffs, “Take the Crown” perfectly pairs the catchy sounds of popular rock with a bit of power-metal bombast.

The accompanying lyric video features an interesting mélange of cool-toned imagery dancing about the screen while the lyrics scroll across in sleek script. From Greco-Roman statues to an angelic figure rising up into the air, the video is one long fist raised to the sky to match the mood of the music.
