On July 11th, pop star Justin Bieber broke the internet — as he is wont to do — by sharing the lyrics to the Tool song “The Pot” via his Instagram story, asking his followers if they could identify them. “If you know what the song is to the lyrics I posted write them down on my last post don’t look it up please I’m curious if any of you know it,” he requested of fans. Reportedly on a road trip with his wife, Hailey, at the time, the chart-topping Canadian singer also posted a short video blaring the 10,000 Days cut as the couple rumbled through a sunny landscape.
As is his wont, Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan chimed in on the resulting headlines about Bieber’s Tool fandom with a typically sarcastic response, namely a tweet with the hashtag #bummer — and Hailey is not taking it sitting down. The model (and daughter of actor Stephen Baldwin) tweeted back at Keenan: “He expressed he was a fan of your music. Grew up listening to your music. You must be unhappy with yourself that you want to make people feel small who express their admiration for you. Very childish and hurtful thing to do. I hope u find security within yourself. Sad place to be.”

Since her tweet, Bieber and Hailey’s fans have also jumped into the fray, resulting in a veritable social media shitstorm — all about pretty much nothing, of course. In much bigger news, Tool’s new, as-yet-untitled album is still due August 30th, by which time all of this will hopefully be a faded memory.
