Killswitch Engage have unleashed the latest single off the metalcore stalwarts’ hotly anticipated eighth album, Atonement, which is due August 16th. Titled “I Am Broken Too,” the soaring cut follows up the LP’s lead single “Unleashed,” released in June. The new cut aims to raise awareness of mental health issues as singer Jesse Leach‘s lyrics draw on his past interactions with a real-life loved one who was spiraling at the time and reflect how the vocalist relayed his own struggles in an effort to make that person feel less lost and alone. Stream it below.
Killswitch Engage are donating a portion of the proceeds from the song to Hope for the Day, a Chicago-based non-profit organization that focuses on suicide prevention by providing outreach and mental health education through the use of music and art.
“This song is very near and dear to my heart,” Leach said in a statement. “I wanted the listener to feel the urgency, the heaviness of the topic as well as a possible connection. Many people suffer from mental illness in one form or another. I want nothing more than for people to feel like they are not alone in this struggle. There is always someone there to help, to listen, and to be there for you. Don’t lose hope and don’t let your brokenness consume you. Broken can be fixed, or at the very least, maintained. No one is alone in this fight.”
Atonement, which is available for pre-order here, features epic cover artwork by Richey Beckett (Metallica, Mastodon) with art direction and design by Killswitch bass player Mike D’Antonio. Killswitch has a packed schedule of live dates ahead of them, including their current co-headlining North American trek with Clutch — see the group’s upcoming itinerary below.
