Following the big reveal of their next album’s title (Black Anima) and cover art (see below), as well as the announcement of a major co-headlining trek with All That Remains set for this fall, Italy’s Lacuna Coil have finally dropped new music. Singer Cristina Scabbia and Co.’s latest song, “Layers of Time” is both soaring and crushing, displaying the gothic melodicism that fans have come to know and love, but with a harder-edge attack behind it. Black Anima is due October 11th via Century Media.

“It might sound really cliché if we say that it’s gonna be heavier and darker, but this is actually the truth,” Scabbia told HardDrive Radio in an interview about the forthcoming LP. “Because I don’t think that Lacuna Coil has ever been so heavy. And it will be surprising a lot of people, because we experimented a lot of things differently — vocally and musically. … Black Anima is basically translated as ‘black soul,’ ’cause ‘anima’ is an Italian word that we decided to use as the title.”
