Hollywood Vampires — the hard-rock supergroup featuring Alice Cooper, Joe Perry and Johnny Depp — are gearing up to release their highly anticipated second album, Rise. Unlike the band’s first offering, 2015’s self-titled record, which was mostly made up of cover songs, the new LP features a slew of original cuts.
“Rise is not only a totally different animal than the first Vampires album, it is unique to anything I’ve ever been a part of,” Cooper said of the album. “I approached it very differently than I usually do when working on an album. Each of us; Joe, Johnny, Tommy and myself have written songs on this album. What is different though is that I didn’t try to change any songs to be more ‘Alice-like.’ Because each of us has different influences, the sound of this album is very cool. I think that with this album, we are establishing what the Vampires’ sound really is, whereas with the first album we were more tipping our hats to our fallen rock & roll brothers.”
All that said, the album does feature a few choice covers, namely, takes on the Jim Carroll Band’s “People Who Died,” Johnny Thunder’s “You Can’t Put Your Arms Around A Memory,” and David Bowie’s “Heroes,” the last featuring lead vocals by Depp. Hollywood Vampires broke out the Bowie cover last night (June 19th) when they stormed the stage at Jimmy Kimmel Live! The band also played the original song “I Want My Now.” See official video of the performance — as well as the full track list for Rise — below.
