Slipknot should have been riding high, but then tragedy struck. On Saturday, May 18th, Gabrielle Crahan — the youngest daughter of Slipknot cofounder Shawn “Clown” Crahan — died at age 22. Shawn and the band confirmed the news via social media.

“It is with a broken heart, and from a place of the deepest pain, that I have to inform all of you that my youngest daughter, Gabrielle, passed away yesterday – Saturday May 18th, 2019,” Crahan wrote. “She was 22 years old. Funeral arrangements will be forthcoming. My family and I ask that our privacy be respected moving forward. Thank you. Much love, clown.”

Slipknot singer Corey Taylor also shared words of mourning and support via his personal social accounts.

The news came just two days after Slipknot announced the details for their highly anticipated sixth album, We Are Not Your Kind, which is due out August 9th (see the cover art and full track list below), and just one day after the band gave their new single “Unsainted” and October’s “All Out Life” their live premieres during their performance on the outdoor stage of Jimmy Kimmel Live! “Unsainted” will be included on We Are Not Your Kind, while “All Out Life,” though its lyrics include the record’s title, does not appear on the LP but rather was released as a standalone single on Halloween 2018.

No word yet on Gabrielle’s cause of death, or on what effect the tragedy may have on Slipknot’s plans. Starting June 7th, the band is scheduled to hit the road in Europe, a stint that will include a June 9th global livestream of Slipknot’s entire headlining set in front of a sellout crowd of 90,000 fans at Germany’s Rock Am Ring Festival. Then on July 26th, the group is supposed to return to launch the first-ever Knotfest Roadshow, with support from VolbeatGojira and Behemoth.
