Iowa’s premiere masked metal juggernaut Slipknot are gearing up for the release of their beyond-highly anticipated new album, due out August 9th. The band has a schedule book full of shows ahead of them, including a sold-out gig at the Iowa State Fair, the first-ever Knotfest Roadshow tour, as well as a performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! this Friday, May 17th. But the day before — the 16th — is looking to be a big one for the group, as well. Slipknot recently updated their official website with a cryptic one-minute video teaser (see it below), which intercuts what appear to be flashing images of some of the band members’ new masks amid archival footage of the Nine’s iconic previous looks from over the years. The site also features a counter that rapidly winds up to and stops at the number “0516,” which suggests that something momentous is coming on Thursday, a.k.a. May 16th. Could it be the reveal of the new masks, including Corey Taylor’s, which was designed in collaboration with famed special effects master Tom Savini? A second single, the follow-up to “All Out Life”? Or maybe an album cover? The full track listing? All of the above? The possibilities are tantalizing. Maggots will just have to wait and see.
