Because releasing a new chart-topping album, 2018’s Rainer Fog, earning a 2019 Grammy nom and, you know, being rock & roll icons just isn’t badass enough, Alice in Chains are putting out their very own full-length movie, a trippy, sci-fi thriller called Black Antenna. Directed by Adam Mason, the 90-minute psychedelic trip was inspired in part by Rainer Fog and is being rolled out across 10 discreet episodes, each correlating with one of the record’s 10 different tracks. Ahead of their big co-headlining tour with Korn, AIC have dropped the premiere episodes, for “The One You Know” and the album’s title cut.

Black Antenna stars Green Book’s Paul Sloan as Alpha and Viktoriya Dov as his 21-year-old daughter, Beta, who communicate telepathically and are out on the road stealing from the men the young woman seduces. Alpha uses what he and his daughter rob in his efforts to build the titular antenna, with which he aims to communicate with their people back home, but dark and powerful forces have learned of their existence and are out to destroy them before their kind can come to their aid.

“This movie came out of nowhere for me,” Mason has said of the film. “As soon as I heard the album, the music and lyrics spoke to me on a profoundly personal level and the film and subject matter was born directly out of that.  I’ve always been a huge fan of Alice in Chains, and this has been a dream come true for me.  Black Antenna is a perfect synergy of the band’s lyrics, and Black Antenna paints a dark and beautiful canvas of the deeply conflicted world we live in today.’
