Tour life might seem glamorous and fun, but it ain’t for the faint of heart. Between the homesickness and long drives, there’s also the issue of where to rest your head each night. Up-and-coming bands cutting their teeth playing tiny gig after tiny gig don’t get to ride in a lux tour bus much less stay in a hotel room every evening. Instead, they get to crash wherever they can while trying to save up gas money. NOLA metal crew Cane Hill are doing well for themselves these days, but it wasn’t that long ago that the boys were staying in some pretty strange spots while on the road. We caught up with singer Elijah Witt to get a look at what tour life is really all about, warts and all.
1. A CASTLE IN THE U.K.
I was too drunk to get out the van and sleep in [the castle]. Woke up to piss at a castle, though — that’s a weird morning.
2. A CRUISE SHIP
Because we were on Shiprocked. Why they put stages right above sleeping quarters is beyond me, though.
3. ANY U.K. HOTEL
Because they’re smaller than shit and don’t make any sense.
4. ELVIS-THEMED AIRBNB
We stayed in an Elvis-themed Airbnb in Whitechapel, London. So we thought Jack the Ripper but saw The King.
5. CONDO ON THE BEACH
Not weird but super sick — we had a condo on the beach in Florida once and that felt real rich.
