Mötley Crüe’s upcoming biopic The Dirt is coming out next month, March 22nd, on Netflix. Beyond just seeing one of the most infamous heavy-metal band’s exploits play out in film, it will also feature newly recorded music by the band themselves. Today they’ve unveiled the first such track, “The Dirt (Est. 1981).”
The beginning of the song is a total throwback to the music the Crüe were dropping in the 80s, lined with a classic, catchy Vince Neil chorus: “Just give me the dirt!” But the boys keep it interesting by throwing a curveball in the form of a guest rap verse from Machine Gun Kelly, where he lists pretty much every illicit activity the band ever got into back in the day. It all ends with a satisfying solo, and a good taste as to why they dominated the hard-rock scene for so many years.
“During the filming of our movie we got excited and inspired to write new music,” said bassist Nikki Sixx. “Getting back in the studio with Bob Rock just fueled the creative fires for us. To me, the music sounds like classic Mötley. The lyrics were written for the movie and are a reflection of our life.”
In addition to “The Dirt (Est. 1981),” which is the band’s first new music since 2015’s “All Bad Things,” the soundtrack also includes three new songs from the band: “Crash and Burn,” “Ride With the Devil” and a cover of Madonna’s “Like a Virgin.”
