Danish/American hard-rock crew Volbeat — led by singer-guitarist Michael Poulsen and featuring ex-Anthrax guitarist Rob Caggiano — has dropped a catchy new single “Last Day Under The Sun” along with the tune’s cinematic music video. The visual was directed by Jakob Printzlau, who has also helmed the clips for Volbeat’s “The Devil’s Bleeding Crown,” “Lonesome Rider,” “16 Dollars” and “Cape of Our Hero.”

According to Poulsen, the lyrics “Last Day Under The Sun” were inspired by a passage in Johnny Cash’s autobiography. “When I read his book, he went through tough times with alcohol and drugs,” the Volbeat frontman said. “He walked into a cave to lay down to die. But he wakes up and feels like he has been given a second chance.”

“Last Day Under The Sun” follows up “Leviathan” as the second single off Volbeat’s forthcoming seventh album, Rewind, Replay, Rebound. The band has also released the super-short punk-rock cut “Parasite” in advance of the LP, which is due August 2nd via Republic Records.
